Glass Jars, Cotton Thread, Water
2025
Assemblage is an installation work, lasting approximately 20 minutes. In video documentation, the piece lasts 11 minutes and 53 seconds. The installation responds to and hopes to add to conversations around collective access needs, love in public spaces, and visualizing care economies. Glass vessels of varying sizes and shapes act in place of bodies, meant to signal the act of sharing a designated space, and occupying that space in varying ways. Some vessels linger close to one another, and others meander farther out, though all remain in frame. Water in this installation intends to mimic the life force, energy levels, love potential, and capacity at large existing within the walls of the vessels (body). While some vessels are full to the brim with water, others carry only a small amount relative to their size. Thread acts as the primary mechanism by which the water (energy, care, love) flows through the collective. Cotton's absorbent quality serves to slowly transport fluid in/out/through/around the assemblage of vessels.
